The
Spotlight
Players
The Spotlight Players was founded in 1985 by a group of friends who wanted to perform together. The founding members had worked with other local groups throughout Queens before finally finding a home at the CLC Community Learning Center in Ozone Park. The first show, performed on a stage the members built themselves, was Godspell, which opened on the same night that Hurricane Gloria swept through NYC. In spite of the weather, the house was packed, and Godspell became the first in a long line of Spotlight successes. The Spotlight Players quickly became known for their musicals, including Anything Goes, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Nunsense, Man of La Mancha, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Comic turns have included Rumors, The Sunshine Boys, Italian American Reconciliation, and Barefoot in the Park, plus farces such as Noises Off, Lend Me a Tenor, and Moon Over Buffalo. Some of Spotlight’s more serious work includes Of Mice and Men, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Proof, and Suddenly Last Summer. Our most recent production was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
